Practical info

Am I ready?

I'm sure today or in the next days you will be in front of your suitcase, thinking ''Am I ready?" or ''Have I got everything I need?''.
Here is a little list to help you.

First ''Did I send everything to Raphael?''
- My presentation (with words and the picture).
- My comic page.
- My Twitter account!
- The number of the mobile I will take with me in the UK (if it is different than the one you gave me on documents you already sent me via the Application and travel info document)

Secondly "Have I got everything I need?"
- Some food and drinks from my region/country. Music (if you want).
- My very short presentation (no longer than 5 min. See previous blog and email) about my region/country for the Intercultural evening.
- Some comic books I like and I would like to share with others.
- Some examples of my work in adult education and/or with comics.
- My bank details (for us to reimburse you).
- Optional: laptop if I want to use my own programmes (such as indesign, photoshop, etc)
- Optional BUT it would be great if I could bring one: photo camera.
- All I need for hygiene (there will be no shower gel, etc in your room)
- Map of Leeds I printed from the blog.
- The address of the hotel: Ibis budget, 2, The Gateway North, Crown Point Rd, Leeds LS9 8BZ
- All my tickets and receipts that I will need to keep and give to Everything Is Possible.
- Raphael's number (I will send it to you this Thursday morning!).
- UK adaptor.
- Anything else I may need (For example, maybe some of you would like to share a specific comic technic, and may need some material for that, etc.)
- Some warm clothes. (It begin to be a bit cold in the UK).
- Optional : an umbrella!
- Passport / ID

Just for info there is no hairdryer in the rooms.

What I don't need in my suitcase?
- Towels (you will have one in your room).
- Too much food and drink. Don't forget that everyone will bring some food and drinks, so don't bring too much. I advise you to bring what you think you could eat and drink in one meal! The cultural evening will be on the Wednesday evening, so be very careful with what you will bring especially dairy.

What I need to keep in mind during the travel:
Keep all receipts, tickets, boarding passes (We will not be able to reimburse you without these documents).
When you need to go out of a train station in the UK, be very careful. You normally need to put your tickets in the machine in order to get through the barrier. The problem is that the barrier will not give it back to you. So please ask the person who should be there, to let you go through the barrier without having to put your ticket in the machine!

In the UK they drive on the other side! So please have a look on both sides before crossing the road. I know it look stupid, but I want you in live!

We will not reimburse taxi! So please try to avoid them. The hotel is only at 10 min walk from the train station and 2 minutes from the bus station.

I think that's all!
I will send you urgency numbers tomorrow.

Raphael

List of things to prepare:

Dear participants.
I hope that this email finds you all well.
Before the seminar I have a few things I would like you to prepare in advance.
We will send you the timetable of the week in the next days.

1)      Presentation of yourself:

We will create a special webpage on the Comic Sans blog on which  you (and other visitors) will be able to learn a bit more about the other participants. Therefore I would like you to send me by the 15th October:
-          a picture of yourself,
-          a list of 20 words of things you like and you think represent yourself,
-          a list of 5-10 comic book/magazine titles/characters you like,
-          and a short paragraph (maximum 40 words), about your experience within adult education and comics (if you have no experience, please explain your objective to teach/work with adults in the future and to learn about comics)
-          your twitter (see point number 2) )

For example, about myself (Raphael Harfaux), it would be: laptop, graphic design, comics, theatre, countryside, website, rhum, CD of Arcade Fire, chocolate, sushi, Corse, DVDs of Miranda (British comedy), Le Monde, couscous, duck, video, photography, dance floor, beach, phone.

Comics: Tintin, Astérix, Robin Dubois, Picsou magazine (Scrooge McDuck), Batman.

I have been working for the last 5 years within organisations offering mobility/non formal learning opportunities to young adults. I introduced comics as a way for adults participating in our programmes to express themselves and share their experience.

@RaphaelHarfaux

2)    Twitter:
I will ask you to create a Twitter account (if you don’t have one already!). You will have to use your account during the workshop. It is very easy to create a Twitter account. Please sign up on https://twitter.com/ . You can already follow: @eispossible . If you use tweet about the workshop, try to include this two mentions @eispossible and #comicsans

3)    Follow us:
Follow us on Facebook (http://on.fb.me/eveULJ ), Twitter (http://bit.ly/ia8W6r ) and Youtube (http://bit.ly/10PXKep ). Please note that for Youtube, you don’t need to have an account: You can easily subscribe to our channel if you have a Gmail address.

4)    Create your own comic page about your life:
I will ask you to create a comic page about your life: only one page, if possible on a A4, portrait format. You can use any technic you want: this will be a nice way to show to the other what you can do. But please, don’t stress about it. For example, myself, I don’t have any talent in drawing but I will use some other technics I like in order to create the page! You will have 5 min on the Sunday 3rd to present your comic page and yourself.

Please send me a digital copy (PDF., JPEG. )  of your comic page by the Tuesday 29th October. If you do a picture of it, try to make a high quality picture (or better, try to scan it). I will put all comic page together in a small leaflet.

Let your imagination run away!

5)    Intercultural evening:
During one of the evening, we will organise an intercultural soiree. This will be the occasion for you to present your country/region and offer some typical food/drink from your region. So it could be great if you could bring some specialities from your region (food/drinks), documents about your country/region/organisation, a flag, some music. For the presentation, each country will have 5 minutes maximum. You can prepare a presentation (if you do a PowerPoint, please make sure that your presentation will not be longer than 5 slides). Please do not include videos in your 5 minutes presentation. If you really want to show videos we could showcase them later in the evening.

6)    Bring examples of your work:
If you are already working with adults and/or comics, please bring some documents, example of what you are doing.

7)    Bring some comics books/magazines:
Bring with you some comic books you like and you would like to share with others (put your name on it).

8)    Bring all your original tickets and receipt:
Do not forget to keep with you all your travel tickets!
NB Many train stations in the UK have machines which keep your ticket. So at the barrier, don’t put your ticket in the machine, but please inform the station staff you wish to retain your ticket.
Please bring me all your original tickets and receipts as well as your bank details of the account on which you want us to reimburse the money (I will send you a form for that).
We cannot reimburse without original ticket/receipt.

9)    Bring anything you think could be useful.

For example, maybe some of you would like to share a specific comic technic, and may need some material for that, etc.

10) Bring your laptop, if you can.

There will be internet in the place where we will run the workshop, so I encourage you to bring your laptop if you have access to internet and be able to tweet about the event!

11)  Other useful things to bring:

- UK adaptor!
